Physiotherapy treatment for soft tissue injuries in Cambridge
Speed up the healing process with therapeutic ultrasound.
When you injure yourself the area often becomes swollen, warm and painful (inflamed).
This is a natural part of your body’s healing process. To accelerate the healing and repair of inflamed ligaments, tendons and bone a course of therapeutic ultrasound might be recommended by your physiotherapist.
What does a treatment involve?
A typical treatment involves moving an applicator attached to an ultrasound machine onto and around the injury.
A thin layer of gel between the skin and the applicator allows the ultrasound machine to transmit sound waves into your tissues. It’s the absorption of these waves of energy that stimulates your body to repair the damage.
Breaking down scar tissue with ultrasound
Depending on the size of the area being treated it can take between 5 – 10 minutes to complete a treatment and it shouldn’t be painful at all.
Therapeutic ultrasound can also be used with more chronic conditions to heat the area and help to break down scar tissue. In these cases the treatment might take a little longer.
