Effective treatment for joint pain & stiffness in Cambridge

If you’ve ever thought it would be great if someone could ‘oil’ your painful joint like a stiff door hinge, then you might be interested in our injection clinic.

Healthy joints naturally produce plenty of lubrication, called synovial fluid, which acts as a shock absorber and allows your joints to move smoothly without friction.

Part of the synovial fluid is made up of a gel–like substance called Hyaluronic Acid, which breaks down if you develop osteoarthritis in one of your joints. Loss of Hyaluronic Acid means the synovial fluid becomes more watery and can’t protect or lubricate your joint as effectively, causing inflammation of the inner membranes lining the joint and breakdown of the cartilage covering the bones, leading to pain and joint stiffness.

Hyaluronic acid joint injection or steroid injection?

At our clinic we offer Hyaluronic Acid replacement injections. These are injections of OSTENIL® gel – a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid – into your affected joint to restore the normal consistency of your joint fluid and coat the joint surfaces with a protective layer again.

Hyaluronic Acid injections are as powerful as a steroid injection at reducing joint inflammation and pain but they have fewer negative side effects and have been shown to last significantly longer.

These injections aren’t meant to be used on their own, they are designed to be part of a broader package of rehabilitation including physiotherapy and specific exercises.

Loss of Hyaluronic Acid means the synovial fluid becomes more watery and can’t protect or lubricate your joint as effectively, causing inflammation of the inner membranes lining the joint and breakdown of the cartilage covering the bones, leading to pain and joint stiffness.

Rapid access to joint injection therapy in Cambridge

Hyaluronic Acid injections aren’t available on the NHS because there are cheaper treatment alternatives for arthritis like painkillers, anti-inflammatories or steroids but as a private clinic, we offer this treatment at a reasonable price.

Our injections are performed at our clinic in Cambridge by our Lead Physiotherapist, Rowan Wilson. Rowan is a highly qualified Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist who regularly lectures in London about the use of injection therapy in clinical practice to doctors and other physiotherapists.
